155MP Camera with 15fps for Flat Panel Display Inspection
In October 2017, Vieworks surprised the audiences of the Stemmer Technology Forum by introducing a preview of an industrial camera with a resolution of 155MP. In the meantime the VC-155 camera is ready and currently being tested by some of the largest makers of flat panel displays.

Ltd.Available in monochrome and colour versions, the camera models offer not only exceptionally large resolution, but also surprisingly fast frame rates enabling the capturing of 15fps with a spacial resolution at 8bit acquisition. The camera is based on Vieworks new and proprietary CMOS image sensor. The sensor has a resolution of 16,384x9,440 pixels (155MP). In order to display the entire image on a screen and matching one to one pixel, it would require more than 74 high definition screens. The sensor has a pixel pitch of 3.5 micron. The size is large enough to have a high sensitivity and to avoid the limitations of camera system modulation transfer function (MTF). At 66mm diagonal, the sensor size is small enough to allow use of a wide variety of available lenses including Schneider and Qioptic. Based on the EMVA 1288 standard measurements, the dynamic range of the image sensor is 63dB, the Dark Noise at maximum gain less than 7e-, DSNU less than 5e-, PNRU below two percent and linearity higher than two percent.

The camera will come in two interface configurations: a CoaXPress Interface with up to 15fps at 25Gbps using four channels and a Camera Link Full Interface with up to 4.2fps recording speed. The recording speed will be even faster at a reduced resolution. The model with Camera Link Interface will come for the first time with a pre-emphasis function allowing the use of 10m cables at 85MHz. The VC-155 has different camera features implemented, such as different pixel depths (8/10/12bit), independent horizontal and vertical binning, analogue and digital gain, Lookup Table (LUT) etc. In addition, all the image processing functions and correction techniques-, have also been added. Some of them are: Flat Field Correction, defective pixel correction (both dynamic and static), cluster defect corrections, DSNU correction, PRNU correction, hot pixel correction and others. An example of the added functionality is the noise reduction function using a 2x2 average mask filter. This function can be disabled if higher MTF is needed or enabled if higher signal to noise ratio is necessary. Mechanically the size of the camera is only 90x90x50mm and it will come with a M72 mount. The power consumption is 12W.
Inspection of OLED Screens
The camera will be used primarily for Flat Panel Display inspection where the size of the screens and resolutions keep increasing. With the new OLED screens gaining their presence in newest smart phone models, there is a growing need for producing and inspecting them in a more efficient way. There are millions of OLED screens and OLED smart phones being manufactured already. For some of these newest smart phone models with high resolution screen, only one picture needs to be captured with the VC-155 in order to inspect the OLED screen for defects. There is no longer any need to take time consuming multiple images requiring optical inspection manufacturers to design mechanical fixtures to move the camera around to capture different parts of the screen under test. Furthermore the VC-155 offers highest horizontal and vertical spacial resolution to help inspect PCBs in a most productive way. Another interesting application is security. Capturing images with 155MP resolution at 15fps enables an ability to capture a lot of data for possible facial recognition and detection of threats.
