Whilst researching for his PhD at Imperial College, our CEO found that the impact of recycling facilities on a country's recycling rate has been hindered by complex and expensive waste sorting infrastructure. Particularly, the industry's reliance on manual pickers to separate items has resulted in lower purity of waste streams. Inspired by developments in AI and robotics technology, in 2019, Recycleye began a mission to prove that 'waste doesn't exist, just materials in the wrong place.'
Which customer problem is solved by your products?
To date, recycling facilities face high contamination in their removal chains which means valuable recyclates are downcycled, reducing the quality and quantity of materials being recovered. Recycleye has developed the automated solutions Recycleye Vision, an AI computer vision system which identifies all individual items on waste streams, and Recycleye Robotics, an intelligent robotic picker, to decrease the reliance on manual labour and increase the purity of waste streams.
What characterizes the company's uniqueness?
Recycleye's disruptive solutions have fast and easy installation, meaning they are retrofit to existing waste sorting machinery, with remote maintenance and self-learning capabilities. They provide the waste management with previously impossible traceability, as the intelligent system self-generates a dashboard of analytics of materials' composition. Computer vision is the only technology that provides this transparency without physical alterations to packaging of the recycled objects.
